How to be a true conservative

Since the election of President Barack Obama in 2008 and his re-election in 2012 many Americans are being awaken to America’s sicknesses and problems and claim that they are conservative. Many listen to different talk show radio hosts and claim that they are conservative.  What does it mean to be a conservative? Well lets diagnose what a conservative is and should be. If we look at what the 1828 Merriam-Webster’s dictionary says, it reads. “CONSERVATIVE, a. Preservative; having power to preserve in a safe or entire state, or from loss, waste or injury.” Which coincides perfectly with what this blogger believes. I believe that as a conservative we all should uphold this key phase, God Family and Country in that order. Over the course of this article I plan on going into this simple phase in greater detail, because if we as a society are lacking in any one of these great terms of God Family and Country we can not expect to be successful in our goal to Restore the US Constitution and our Great country.

God– Since the very early days of our country till approximately the fifties of the twentieth century God and the belief there in has been a huge factor in our country’s belief system,  our goodness, and greatness. Now look at where we are at in 2013 with abortions, murders, homosexuality, and other sins/crimes running ramped. We have approximately over 70-80% of the American public dependent on government for one thing or another, and at least 50% of the American public in complete dependency. In fact last year during the Republican presidential debates candidate Ron Paul was booed after he mention that we should live the Golden Rule.
“12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7 Verse 12
Or last year when the Democrat Party attempted to add God back into their party platform. Notice that it was clearly not a 3/4’s vote and more like a 50-50% split in the vote.Or you have so many groups of people whom are pushing for gay marriage legalization and special rights to be created by government, or else you have a certain percentage of  “conservatives” pushing for a marriage amendment to the US Constitution between one man and one woman “which is not a good idea”. You have some segments of society pushing for anarchy, because of how intrusive the government has become, and you have others asking for more government to fix our woes.  It is amazing how far we as a society have drifted away from God. I can spend all day long pointing out our problems as society, but what I would much rather do is discuss the solutions of how we can return to God and Restore one aspect of God Family Country.

We first must constantly build Charity for those around us in our lives. Either our family, friends, neighbors, or any person you bump into on the street. Care for their concerns, trials, and hardships. Seek out ways how you can benefit their lives. For Charity is the true love of Christ. It was Christ that stated in Matthew 22 Verse 37-40

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

If we also turn to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary for the word Charity it reads.
“1. In a general sense, love, benevolence, good will; that disposition of heart which inclines men to think favorably of their fellow men to think favorably of their fellow men, and to do them good. In a theological sense, it includes supreme love to God, and universal good will to men.”

Another term that we must utilize is Humility and the dangers of Pride. Websters Dictionary says that Humility is.:
“1. In ethics, freedom from pride and arrogance; humbleness of mind; a modest estimate of one’s own worth. In theology, humility consists in lowliness of mind; a deep sense of one’s own unworthiness in the sight of God, self-abasement, penitence for sin, and submission to the divine will.” and Pride is :
“1. Inordinate self-esteem; an unreasonable conceit of one’s own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others.”
Christ taught us this about Humility the Book of Doctrine and Covenants chapter 23 verse 1 which reads. :  “1 Behold, I speak unto you, Oliver, a few words. Behold, thou art blessed, and art under no condemnation. But beware of pride, lest thou shouldst enter into temptation.” Or Peter in Chapter 2 Verse 21 21 “For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.”
Now look at how many times we have been strictly warned about pride? Look around you at the pride with in our society? Then look at what and how you may become more Humble in your day to day  life? We should anxiously seek the Lord with what else we could be doing to serve him and others. Then go and do. As we do this I can personally testify that this builds Charity, Hope, Humility, Faith, and we then are blessed as to the things that we may need in our lives at the particular time. For only the Lord knows what we need.

Family- In this section we will focus on the family, and like the segment above this too has been the foundation for American society since the early founding of our once great nation till about the fifties sixties of the century. The leading problems to this radical change with in our society are as follows. :
1. The feminine movement promoting that the woman’s place is in the work place instead of the Home. The woman’s rightful place is in the home and raising the children and the next generation.
2. The creation of the United States Board of Education, overstepping the local and states jurisdiction.
3. The laziness of the parent to expect the school to teach their children, instead of the parent taking charge in the education of their children.
4. The fact that Men have been and continue to grow up to be children and not Men. The responsibility of the Man is to provide a Honest Hard days wages in order to provide for his family. As well as setting a strong father figure in the home.
I could go on but we need to remember that education first and foremost starts in the home and should never be controlled by the federal government. Constitutionally they have no right to be in that business. We should also focus on self reliance and being able to raise the family. We should be wise to never allow our families to go to waste either because of work, debt, lack of unity and trust, and lack of love and Charity. We should make sure first and foremost that the financial, educational, spiritual needs are met. Then focus on the focus on other activities best served to unite the family unit. Forget the TV, forget all other distractions in your life, and focus solely and unequivocally on the family and the home.

Country- What does it mean to love one’s country? I personally view my love and devotion for America by looking at her past, and her rule of law the US Constitution. America used to be strong in defense. She used to promote free market principles and frugality. Used to promote the Honor of not just serving the country, but doing so with the goal of 100% fidelity to the US Constitution. In fact I remember a story of Congressman Davy Crockett who served in the House of Representatives in the 1820’s, started off okay but then through his conscience  repented and turned into a strong defender of the US Constitution.   James Madison stated in his Report of 1800 given in 1799 to the State legislature of Kentucky. “Whenever, therefore, a question arises concerning the constitutionality of a particular power, the first question is, whether the power be expressed in the Constitution. If it be, the question is decided. If it be not expressed, the next inquiry must be, whether it is properly an incident to an express power, and necessary to its execution. If it be, it may be exercised by Congress. If it be not. Congress cannot exercise it.”
-James Madison
Or you have this statement by George Washington  in a letter to the Marquis De Lafayette on May, 28, 1788 regarding the divine influence of God above and his participation in drafting the US Constitution.  “Since I had the pleasure of writing to you by the last Packet, the Convention of Maryland has ratified the federal Constitution by a majority of 63 to 11 voices. That makes the seventh State which has adopted it, next Monday the Convention in Virginia will assemble; we have still good hopes of its adoption here: though by no great plurality of votes. South Carolina has probably decided favourably before this time. The plot thickens fast. A few short weeks will determine the political fate of America for the present generation and probably produce no small influence on the happiness of society through a long succession of ages to come. Should every thing proceed with harmony and consent according to our actual wishes and expectations; I will confess to you sincerely, my dear Marquis; it will be so much beyond any thing we had a right to imagine or expect eighteen months ago, that it will demonstrate as visibly the finger of Providence, as any possible event in the course of human affairs can ever designate it. It is impracticable for you or any one who has not been on the spot, to realise the change in men’s minds and the progress towards rectitude in thinking and acting which will then have been made.”

-George Washington
Yes, under God’s watchful eye he gave unto us the US Constitution. One could even read in the Doctrine and Covenants Chapter 98 Verses 4-11

4 And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them.

5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me.

 6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;

7 And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil.

8 I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free.

9 Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn.

10 Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.

11 And I give unto you a commandment, that ye shall forsake all evil and cleave unto all good, that ye shall live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God.

Or else one could point out the angel that appeared to George Washington in Valley Forge?  So you can see the upmost importance for all of us to not just learn the US Constitution, but to live it. So that we as Americans can look past the party lines and elect those that will adhere to their sacred oaths of office.
Now what types of issues should we be fighting against you may ask? We could be fighting against our numerous illegal wars that are currently going on world wide. Since one one has been legally declared according to Article 1 Section 8 Clause 11. We could fight for the rule of law and be outraged as the president of the United States acts like the judge jury and executioner. We should be outraged by the passage of the most recent NDAA by Obama and the Democrats and the USA Patriot Act passed by Bush and the Republicans. Then there is the principle of legalized plunder. Forced taxation by the point of a gun by government, just to give it to someone else. Either if that may be the student loan program, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, foreign aid, subsidies, etc. All of which is unconstitutional. We should be constantly questioning what the media tells us and constantly involved at the State and local levels. For it is at the local levels that we will truly save and restore the country and her rule of law, the US Constitution.
Let us take inventory of where we stand in these sacred principles. Let us strive to live this sacred phrase of God, Family, Country.
